When a dash (representing a negative value) is placed in front of just a number, it is announced as minus 123. However if there is a dollar symbol between the dash and the first number, it is only announced as a positive dollar value: dash dollar symbol 1 2 3 is announced as one hundred twenty three dollars and not minus one hundred twenty three dollars. Have not tested with other currency symbols, but suspect same behavior.

Can you fix this with a dictionary rule of some kind? It sounds like its the ideal case for this.
Unfortunately as I am using uk pounds I cannot test this.

@briang1 - curious, do you see the same behavior with the Pound Sterling and/or euro symbols?

As well, I think that this should be a global fix, rather than a user-based fix. I work for a major bank in the USA, and it would be a nightmare having to try and educate all users to make a local change on their setup (not to mention the problems with training our telephone support staff, etc.)

A work around is to use a higher punctuation/symbol level or raise the level for the - symbol, but ideally, our negative number rule should handle this.

Wouldn't be the first time I've asked for the ideal James .

Any chance of that happening? Asking all of our clients to invoke a work-around isn't going to scale to the level we need. (FWIW we test and target default settings).

Well I'll await Jamie etc for comments of that. What software are we talking about here, as as it stands on my machine, I can hear the -, but I do not hear the currency spoken in the right place. This could be something I've altered in the symbol settings of course, but as i do not use monetary amounts that much, it does not affect me. My feeling is that the punctuation level might affect the speaking of this, but I've not altered it myself.
