when alttext is present within a graphic, NVDA will read alttext
followed by any/all text contained within graphic, which the former
should suppress the ladder, i.e. alttext only should be read.

Attachment reading alt text and then the words inside of figure tag.pdf added by kevinchao89 on 2012-03-19 20:55
Description:
Ok, in the attached file, what you should here is “This is the alt text for figure 5.5” and then the caption, “Figure 5.5 Body mass index and beauty…”   Instead you will hear all sorts of numbers etc… in between the alt text and the caption.  It is a picture of a scatterplot diagram with the x and y axis consisting of numbers, and there is a key for the chart as well.  None of those things (ideally) should be read at all, but currently they are.

This is arguably a bug in Adobe Reader, so I've reported it to Adobe. However, if they won't fix it for Reader 11, we can work around it.

This won't be fixed in Reader in the near-term, so we'll need to work around it in NVDA.
