Sharepoint is a team collaboration software that my employer has installed. However, NVDA does not display some links that I do see in the HTML source.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the attached HTML.
  2. Look at all the links. Now, open the HTML source and search for "contacts" without quotes. You'll be in a list and if you press the up arrow a few times, you will see that these items are in an ul tag with the class of "root static".

Result: The links are not displayed in browse mode, but are present in the HTML source.

Expected result: these links should be displayed in browse mode.

I just wanted to note that:

Browser: Firefox 9.0.1
NVDA: latest snapshot

I do see a "Contacts" link on that page. Please ensure that the issue is reproduceable with just the attached HTML.

I'm sorry. My bad. It does work in the saved HTML.

I investigated this further. In the main website (not the saved version), the NVDA buffer goes as far as the toolbar and then gets stuck. The only way to go passed that point would be to press tab several times, at which point NVDA would play the error sound. Turning off the focus mode and pressing up or down verifies that I'm still in the toolbar. Pressing NVDA+CTRL+space does not work at all.

I think this ticket is invalid; NVDA does recognize the links. The problem is that I can't scroll down below the toolbar.

Further update: using the object navigation commands, I can only see the toolbar. No other objects passed the toolbar are present.

Unfortunately, we can't even begin to debug this without access to the software, as it seems that !JavaScript or CSS is having some impact here.

If you can't see objects beneath the toolbar with object navigation, this is very possibly a Firefox bug.
Changes:
Changed title from "NVDA does not recognize some links in Sharepoint" to "Can't scroll past toolbar in Sharepoint using Firefox"

Very valid point. Do you want me to request an account for you from my employer, or can you install Sharepoint on an IIS server locally?

Verified: this does not happen with IE. So I think that proves it's an FX bug?

Almost. Please try the following:

  1. Load the page.
  2. Press NVDA+space to force focus mode.
  3. Keep pressing tab until you get passed the toolbar.
If my suspicion is correct, NVDA should report items past the toolbar when you do this. However, now keep pressing the "Move to containing object" command (NVDA+numpad8 for desktop layout, NVDA+shift+i for laptop layout). Do you ever hit the document or does it skip straight up to the desktop window after a while?

Also, please try this with a nightly build of Firefox. If it's a Firefox bug, it's possible it's been fixed already.

Someone on nvda-dev noted that they've used this site for Sharepoint testing:
http://www.wssdemo.com/default.aspx
Just noting it here so the info doesn't get lost.

I tested what you suggested. The good news is that it also happens for me on the website that Nick Allan kindly offered, so if it doesn't happen for you, it means it's fixed in Firefox.

I tried what you asked. Yes, it jumps to "Desktop Window" when I try to navigate up in the hierarchy, after, of course, pressing the "move to focus" keystroke.

I can reproduce this in my own Firefox profile. However, if I create a clean profile, I can't reproduce it. Unfortunately, I've seen this exact problem before on other sites and the one Firefox accessibility engineer who has the most clue as to how to debug this can't reproduce it with his profile. Arrrg!

This is covered by MozillaBug:677154.

Thanks Jamy for also reporting this in the Mozilla bug tracker. Do you think the presence of an add-on (such as Adblock Plus or Firebug) might be causing this?

It's not an add-on, as I also tried with Firefox in safe mode.

This bug only occurs when Firefox is maximised. Therefore, you can work around it by ensuring Firefox is not maximised; i.e. press alt+space and select Restore.

Also reported on the following page.

Maybe some mileage in informing web site authors which show this issue about the Mozilla bug as it will not be obvious on sighted views of the sites.
